Roofing takes a long time

So the roof has taken pretty much all summer, with building a shed along the side. Deciding whether to finish the roof ourselves or to hire someone was a tough call. We are really trying hard
to stick to the budget, but we couldn't let rain get inside. After a few discussions and some quotes on pricing, we decided to finish it ourselves. A HUGE thank you to Aunt Steph, Uncle Bruce, and Mike for helping out Saturday. I have no idea how long it would have taken if you didn't give up your Saturday for us. The pictures speak for themselves, but we had a blast with the nail gun, pulled out old then used A LOT of  new nails, thousands actually. And most of us learned the hard way how important it is to be precise laying shingles. Otherwise...you have many crooked lines. We finished most of the roof Saturday, and my parents went back up on Sunday to tie up loose ends.A  big thanks to my mom for also going up on Monday to hammer a few shingles. The only thing left is flashing around the chimney and its DONE!! Flashing..what's that? Great question! I'll let you know when I help do it...

That's not even half of the nails we pulled out of the roof.
Out with the old...in with the new.

Roofing with the old fashioned hammer and nails
Did you know shingles are REALLY heavy? Yeah I had no idea until my dad and I unloaded about 40 of these. I wasn't even strong enough to get them on the roof.

FINISHED! (well mostly)
The hardest workers I know!
